Research:

Dr. Pienta's laboratory focuses on defining cancer as a complex adaptive system, with a special emphasis on understanding the biology of prostate cancer metastasis. The laboratory defines metastasis as a set of defined steps encompassing emigration, migration, and immigration of the cancer cells. Within each of these steps there exist Boolean network nodes that can be identified and targeted for the development of new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of hormone refractory prostate cancer.
